Glennon Comes Full Circle to Win Metropolitan Women’s Amateur

28th Women’s Amateur Scoring

Kathy Glennon recalls playing in the Women’s Amateur Championship over 20 years, she still has the silver bowl she won from Quail Creek Golf Course in the late 90’s from her first championship.  The silver bowl prize she won was for one of the lower flights and not competing with the championship contenders like Ellen Port or Barbara Berkmeyer.

Fast forward to 2020 and Glennon’s name will now adorn the Jayne M. Watson Trophy with those same names. Glennon needed overtime to accomplish this feat on Wednesday at Greenbriar Hills Country Club, where she defeated the 2017 champion McKenna Montgomery in a 2-hole playoff to win the title. Montgomery led after Round 1 with an Even par 71, Glennon was 7 shots back of Montgomery going to Round 2.  Both players completed 36-holes at 151 (+9) for the championship.

Glennon was elated, after over 20 years of competing in this championship to have her name go on the Watson Trophy, “Jayne has done so much for me, for all of women’s golf in this area, I am beyond thrilled to have my name go on her trophy with these other ladies!”

In the Net Championship, there were two flights ladies competed in.  In A-Flight, Peggy Shamleffer had two great days winning with a Net total of 143 (+1) while Simay Souvannarath was the Runner-Up in A-Flight.

In the Net B-Flight, Sandra Wedewer won the title with Renie Compton coming in as Runner-Up.
