Field Set for Inaugural Robert A. Shogren Cup

St. Louis, MO. – The field is set for the inaugural Robert A. Shogren Cup, a competition between the top amateurs of the Metropolitan Amateur Golf Association and top professionals of the Gateway PGA.

The event is named to honor the late Bob “Shogie” Shogren, who was an ambassador for both the amateurs and professionals in our region.

“This match has been played off and on over the years, and now was the time to give the match a proper name and honor Shogie,” MAGA Executive Director Curt Rohe said. “The Shogren Cup continues to fortify a strong relationship between the region’s two leading golf organizations.”

The Ryder Cup style format will feature Four-Ball Matches on the first day of competition followed by Foursomes and Singles matches on the second day to decide the 2021 Shogren Cup.

“Always a favorite event for our area PGA Professionals, we are excited for the return of these matches showcasing the best of competitive golf and collaborative partnerships,” Executive Director of the Gateway PGA Section Ali Wells said.

The first match will be played at Shogie’s home club, Bellerive Country Club, on May 23-24.

Teams were comprised using player of the year standings as well as captains’ picks.
