MAGA to Conduct U.S. Open Local Qualifying at Spencer T. Olin Golf Course
Alton, IL. – U.S. Open Local qualifying conducted by MAGA is set for this Monday, May 10, at Spencer T. Olin Golf Course in Alton.
76 players will tee it up and play 18 holes for four open spots and the chance to advance to final qualifying.
Local qualifying is in progress all across the country with 8,680 golfers competing for 500 spots in the final qualifying locations.
Four out of the five who advanced from MAGA’s 2019 U.S. Open Local qualifier are in the field again in 2021 at Spencer T. Olin. There was no qualifying in 2020 due to the pandemic.
Christopher Ferris was the lone player under par at Fox Run Golf Club in 2019, shooting a 1-under 71. Collin Neeman, Crimson Callahan, Carr Vernon, and Kevin Lucas all shot even par to claim the last four spots.
Ferris, the reigning Metropolitan Amateur Champion, was Low Scorer and Low Amateur in 2019. The senior at UMSL is a two-time Metropolitan Junior Amateur champion and a Jay Randolph Achievement Award recipient.
Callahan, MAGA’s 2019 Men’s Player of the Year, won in large part to his victory at the Old Warson Cup. The senior at Missouri State started his collegiate career at Western Kentucky.
Michael Feagles is one to watch in the field. The fifth-year senior at Illinois helped lead the Illini to a Big Ten title this past weekend while earning a spot on the All-Championship team. The Scottsdale, Arizona native was first-team All-Big Ten all five years while at Illinois.
Missouri colleges and universities will be well represented, as players from UMSL, Maryville, Missouri Baptist, Missouri S&T, and Missouri are all scheduled to compete.
First tee times will go off at 7:30 am CT off hole No. 1. Spectators are welcome.
