Belleville, IL – McKenna Montgomery won the 29th Metropolitan Women’s Amateur Championship Tuesday. The two-day championship was held at St. Clair Country Club in Belleville.

The junior at Lindenwood has now won the Jayne M. Watson trophy twice, having won her first in 2017 at Sunset Hills Country Club.

“I hit everything pretty solid today,” Montgomery said. “I felt like I kind of lost my swing for a while so it felt really good to get back in a groove today. My chipping and putting was better today, which really helped me when I missed the green, I was able to catch myself back up.”

Montgomery, who plays golf and basketball at Lindenwood, shot a 1-over 73 on Tuesday, good for the low round of the tournament. The long-hitter eagled the par 5 6th hole to get into red figures before the turn. A couple bogeys on the back put her back over par but she was two shots clear at the end. She finished at 7-over for the tournament, going 78-73–151.

“This is always a good tournament to start the summer with. I’ve played in it for a couple years now, and it’s just good to get to play different courses and get back in competition mode.”

Alyssa McMinn took home runner-up honors after a final round 3-over 75. She shot three strokes better on the second day, and finished at 9-over 153 (78-75).

Melanie Wolf and Kathy Glennon tied for third, each with a two-day total of 158 (+14).

In the Net Championship, Peggy Shamleffer won Flight A going 68-80–148 (+4). Pam Lenhard won Flight B with an 8-over 158 (77-75).
