Team MAGA Set for Mid-America Junior Cup This Weekend in Kansas City
LIVE SCORING | MID-AMERICA JUNIOR CUP PORTAL
Kansas City, MO – Team MAGA is headed across the state this weekend for the 23rd playing of the Mid-America Junior Cup.
The Mid-America Junior Cup matches are an annual competition between Metropolitan Amateur Golf Association (MAGA) and Central Links Golf (CLG), formerly the Kansas City Golf Association (KCGA). The competition began in 1999 as an effort to showcase the top juniors from each Associations respective regions. The event was created to foster camaraderie and sportsmanship between MAGA and KCGA.
MAGA and CLG are tied in the all-time series with nine wins apiece plus four ties. CLG retained the cup after last year’s playing at Lake Forest Country Club, where the match was halved 8-8. Falcon Lakes Golf Club, northwest of Kansas City, will host this year’s event.
Chaminade College Prep is well represented on Team MAGA with three players from their defending state championship team. Senior Ryan Walsh, committed to Loyola-Chicago, is making his third appearance at the Mid-America Junior Cup while sophomore Bubba Chapman is back for his second time competing. Junior John Guerra earned a spot on the team and is the defending Metropolitan Junior Amateur champion. Harper Ackermann, a freshman at CBC, makes his second Mid-America Junior Cup team.
Isabella Arro is coming off her fourth-straight state championship at St. Joseph’s Academy. The senior finished runner-up individually in the state tournament this week. Riley Edwards, a senior at Edwardsville High School, played in the U.S. Women’s Amateur Four-Ball in Texas in April. She is committed to play golf at the University of Iowa.
Eva Brown will be the youngest competitor. The eighth grader at Washington Middle School was the Gateway PGA Tour Division Player of the Year this past summer with four wins in 11 events. Addy Surber, a freshman at Lafayette High School, finished first in her district tournament to give Lafayette a berth in the state championship. She won five of six events on the Gateway PGA Junior Tour including a win at the Junior Tour Championship.
Foursomes matches begin Saturday morning at 8:00 a.m. Afternoon Four-Ball matches are slated to start at 1:30 p.m. The competition ends Sunday morning with Singles matches starting at 8:00 a.m.
First team to 8 ½ points will win the cup. Live scoring is available through the portal here.
